Two years ago author Elizabeth Winthrop asked Joe Manning to help her find the descendents of a 12-year-old mill worker from Pownal named Addie Card.
For Winthrop, the search was the end of a process. She'd written the book, "Counting on Grace" about Addie Card and was interested who the girl's descendents really were.
For Joe Manning, the search was only a beginning. Card's photo was among thousands taken of child workers in the early 1900s by Lewis Hine.
Manning became fascinated by Hine's work and has set about tracking down the ancestors of the children in the photographs, some of whom lived in Vermont. The result is the Lewis Hine Project. He spoke with VPR's Jane Lindholm about the project
