(Host) In 2005 some 400
Vermont National Guards men and women were deployed to Iraq as part of Task Force Saber.
Most went to Ramadi, the capital of Al Anbar Province and one of the most dangerous parts of the country at the time.
Now a member of Task Force Saber, Sgt. First Class James Greene of St. Albans, is exhibiting his photographs from that deployment. Among other images, Greene captured the memorial services for a number of comrades who lost their lives.
(Greene) "And really it was an escape for me. It kept me focused on what was happening, especially on the first one. The first one was actually a guy who was right out of our section who happened to be training with Iraqi soldiers. So to be there and have it be somebody that you've trained with and you knew made it all that more difficult."
(Host) Greene's photographs are on display this month at the Brownell Library in Essex Junctions. You can hear Greene talk about the photographs and the stories behind them today at noon on Vermont Edition.
