Health Department wants to monitor drug resistant infection

The Vermont Health Department is looking for a better way to monitor cases of drug-resistant staph infection in the state.
The call by Health Commissioner Sharon Moffatt comes after two reported outbreaks of the infection, known as MRSA in the last week.
Moffatt says that 16 states, but not Vermont, require health care providers to report cases of the infection.
The infections are usually spread through close physical contact. It is resistant to some antibiotics but treatable with others.
Last week, state health officials reported three cases in Rutland. One case was reported this week in Williston.
All the patients recovered.
