Federal agencies to tour central Vermont flood sites

(Host) State officials say their preliminary estimates of damages from last week's flash flooding top $4 million.

Officials from two federal agencies expect to tour central Vermont tomorrow to verify those estimates.

Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration will then meet with residents in the evening at the Barre Opera House.

The federal agencies are trying to determine whether an official disaster declaration should be issued. That would make federal assistance available for repairs.

There was flooding in Orange, Washington and Lamoille counties after torrential rain on Wednesday.

Some local roads still are closed in Barre Town, Braintree, Brookfield, Randolph and Williamstown.
