(Mitch Wertlieb) As the Democratic presidential primaries move south in the next few months, the issue of race will certainly come up, as it did in a recent debate in Iowa. Front-runner Howard Dean was criticized by the Reverend Al Sharpton for the lack of minorities in his cabinet when Dean was governor of Vermont. But African-American candidate Carol Mosley Braun also criticized Sharpton for trying to make race a divisive issue.

For a closer look at questions about race and diversity under Howard Dean we're joined on the line by Kathy Hoyt, who served as Dean's chief of staff until 1997 and secretary of administration from 1997 to 2002.
