(Neal Charnoff) Most of us begin our day by preparing ourselves in the mirror. The commonplace nature of this morning ritual makes us think of mirrors as just mundane objects we use in our daily lives. But in fact, the human ability to see and interpret our own reflection is unique in the animal kingdom.

In the new book "Mirror, Mirror: A History of the Human Love Affair with Reflection," Colchester author Mark Pendergrast tells the story of the mirror's historical, practical and metaphorical place in our world.

Mark Pendergrast has previously written books on false memory, the Coca-Cola Company and the history of coffee. He joins us in our Colchester studios.

Note:
"Mirror, Mirror " is published by Basic Books. Pendergast will sign copies of the book Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Barnes and Noble in South Burlington.
