Burke Lumber May Become Canadian Transfer Station
(Host) A Northeast Kingdom lumber company may go back into business. The Massachusetts buyer of the now-closed Burke Lumber says he hasn't decided what to do with the property in Burke and Sutton. But a letter on file in the Sutton town clerk's office indicates the mill property may become a station for transferring Canadian lumber into the United States.
Burke Lumber hasn't operated since former owner, Tree Source Industries of Oregon, filed for bankruptcy in 1988. The 103-acre property sold last week for $150,000.
