Libertarians Offer Plan for Redistricting
(Host) The Vermont Libertarian Party has it's own plan for redrawing the state's legislative districts. The Party would like to create new districts in which a state senator would represent only 20,000 constituents.
Currently there are senate districts in Chittenden, Rutland, Windsor and Washington counties that have populations much larger than that.
According to Party Chairman Brendan Kinney, smaller senate districts have two benefits. He says senators with fewer constituents can be more responsive to citizens' needs. And, he says candidates would need to spend less money on campaigning for a smaller audience.
The House will be voting this week on a Republican-sponsored redistricting bill.
