Demong Carries U.S. Flag In Closing Ceremony

At the closing ceremony of the Olympic yesterday, Vermontville, New York's Billy Demong was the U.S. flag bearer. But he also carried the banner as the first U.S. Olympic champion in Nordic sports.

Newell Races In Men’s Cross Country Relay

Shaftsbury's Andy Newell took part in the men's cross country 4 by 10 kilometer relay. But it was a disappointing run for the American team, they came in 13th, that's next to last place.

Nordic Combined Takes Silver Medal

Cross Country Skiers Have Strong Finish

Local cross country skiers had a strong day yesterday in Olympic competition in Vancouver. The men and women's team sprint finals took place in warm weather, around 50 degrees, some spectators were wearing short-sleeved shirts.

Vermont Olympic gold medalist Hannah Kearney will be honored with a hometown parade. Friday's parade will start in Hanover and end in Kearney's hometown of Norwich.

Russian President Seeks Heads Over Olympic Woes

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is not pleased with his country's medal tally at the Winter Olympics. Medvedev said the members of the Russian Olympic committee should resign, and if the officials don't want to step down, he said, "We shall help them."

Hockey: Canada Wins Gold, Beats U.S. 3-2 In OT

The big game lived up to the hype. Canada need overtime to beat the United States to win the gold medal in men's hockey at the Winter Games. It's a fitting end to the Vancouver Olympics for Team Canada which won a record 14 gold medals during the games.

The Vancouver Winter Olympics closed Sunday night with a ceremony celebrating the home country — quirks and all. It was one big indoor party with 60,000 people, including 2,600 athletes attending. International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge said they were "excellent and very friendly games."

Snowboarder Chris Klug's career almost ended after the 1998 Olympics because of liver disease. But he got a transplant a decade ago, and went on to take a bronze medal in 2002 — likely the only Olympic medal won by a transplant recipient. Now, Klug is back once again for the Vancouver games.
