VPR Presents StoryCorps In Vermont
7:50 am and 5:30 pm Mondays and Thursdays beginning August 10
StoryCorps, a national initiative to document everyday history and the unique stories of America, is collecting the stories of Vermonters for broadcast on VPR, National Public Radio (NPR) and to be archived at the Library of Congress. The StoryCorps mobile recording booth, contained in an Airstream trailer, is located outside Burlington City Hall on Church Street now through August 27, 2006.

Beginning August 10 and continuing through the fall, VPR will broadcast and podcast a selection of the local stories and create special programming around the project. VPR Presents StoryCorps in Vermont stories will air Mondays and Thursdays at 7:55 am and 5:30 pm. The first person accounts are a record of the way we live today—and how we got here.

VPR Presents Eye On The Night Sky Stargazing Party Live From Burke Mountain

Join VPR's Mitch Wertlieb, Eye on the Sky's Mark Breen and science journalist Andy Chaikin for VPR's interactive stargazing party and live broadcast at Burke Mountain. If you can't make it to the Northeast Kingdom, take your radio out into your backyard, tune in VPR and look up to the sky. And if you have a question about something astronomical, call VPR and we'll answer your calls live on-air!

Listen for Mark Breen's daily Eye on the Night Sky broadcast, designed to help you find and observe constellations and other objects visible by the eye in the night sky. Hear it weekdays at 4:30 pm or listen to the podcast anytime.

VPR Collaborates With The Vermont Humanities Council For Vermont Reads "As Long As There Are Mountains"

VPR encourages you to participate in Vermont Reads "As Long As There Are Mountains," community-reading project sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Council. Join others reading and discussing author Natalie Kinsey-Warnock's book, which tells the story of Iris, a thirteen-year-old girl living with her farm family in the Northeast Kingdom. VPR will broadcast an excerpt from As Long As There Are Mountains along with an interview with Kinsey-Warnock. Public libraries across the region are sponsoring related Vermont Reads events. Author Natalie Kinsey-Warnock will be at the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum at 3 pm October 12 and at Isley Public Library in Middlebury at 7 pm on October 13.

Live Performances With Walter Parker Featured On VPR And VPR Classical
The summer music performance season continues, and Walter Parker's giving you sneak previews as he opens the VPR studios to musicians for performance and conversation. On Friday, August 4, Opera North will perform live on VPR in advance of their upcoming production. Then on Thursday, August 10, Robert DeCormier and Counterpoint joins Walter to preview their concert of African-American spirituals. The North Country Chamber Players and their guest, pianist Pablo Ziegler, perform tangos on August 16, with the Fischer Duo, Cellist Norman Fischer and pianist Jeannie Kierman Fischer performing on August 17. Musicians from the Central Vermont Chamber Music Festival visit on August 18. All of these live performances begin at 11 am. Live Concert Webcasts
Fridays At Noon
Listen online every Friday at noon for a mix of roots rock, folk, country and more. VPR is webcasting live performances from public radio station XPN and NPR Music. (Don't worry if you can't stream at work...the concerts are archived so you can listen online at your convenience.) Upcoming performers include Pete Yorn, the Derek Trucks Band, Toby Lightman and the Barenaked Ladies.

VPR Presents Political Symposium Featuring NPR's Peter Overby And A Gubernatorial Debate
September 19
Join VPR for an afternoon symposium exploring the future of electoral politics. NPR's Peter Overby opens the afternoon with his keynote address discussing money in politics. A follow-up panel discussion brings that discussion into the realm of Vermont politics, and a second panel discussion explores the role of new media in today's elections. The symposium will culminate with a gubernatorial debate broadcast live on VPR. The symposium will be held at St. Michael's College. Details are still in the works, but please mark your calendar for September 19!
