Vermont Public Radio Promotes John Van Hoesen to Vice President for News
(Colchester, Jan. 22, 2008) - Vermont Public Radio today announced the promotion of John Van Hoesen to Vice President for News.
"John's promotion is in recognition of his excellent, quiet leadership," says Mark Vogelzang, President and General Manager of Vermont Public Radio. "He has been key in building VPR's regional news department and, in the last two years, creating and expanding Vermont Edition, our daily noon news program, to increase our service to the listeners of Vermont and the region."
Van Hoesen joined VPR in 2001as News Director. Previously he had served as the managing editor of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rutland Herald. He helped VPR to expand its news and feature coverage with regional newscasts heard during Morning Edition, All Things Considered and in the noon hour. In 2005, Van Hoesen led the launch of a new weekly news program, Vermont Edition. In August, 2007, Vermont Edition became a daily noon news magazine hosted by Jane Lindholm.
Van Hoesen is a recipient of the Associated Press Distinguished Service Award and was the executive producer of VPR's nationally award-winning documentary Howard Dean: The Vermont Years. Under his tenure, Vermont Public Radio's news coverage has been honored with six national Edward R. Murrow Awards in a variety of categories including outstanding investigative reporting, outstanding feature reporting, outstanding news series, and outstanding continuing coverage.
Van Hoesen grew up on a dairy farm in southern Vermont.
