Financial Information

Vermont Public Radio is based in Colchester, Vermont, just outside of Burlington, and is an independent, member supported, nonprofit organization with a local Board of Directors.  We operate two unique radio services around the region: VPR and VPR Classical, and also offer a number of on-line and digital program streams.
We're proud of the fact that Vermont Public Radio has a rich tradition of over 30 years of financial support from individuals, families, businesses and foundations throughout the region. It is only with this financial support that we are able to provide our broadcast and web services.

While it is expensive and complex to operate multiple program services in Vermont and throughout the region via a network of radio stations, we rely on a number of sources of income to do this. The largest source, nearly 90%, comes from listeners who make financial contributions and become members and from local business underwriting or sponsorship. Approximately 10% of the annual operating income comes from the Federal Government through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). Vermont Public Radio receives no funding from the State of Vermont.
Contributing donors provide the most reliable and important revenue source. Currently, there are 23,000 members who contribute because they value what they hear, and believe that they need to do their share.  Thanks for doing your part!

Funding Facts

Where we get our funding:

Vermont Public Radio
Revenues FY 2007

*Corporation for Public Broadcasting funding is higher this year because of the success of VPR's Creating a Sound Future endowment campaign.  CPB funding is based upon how much a station raises locally, whether for annual, capital or endowment support.
