Michelle Jeffery, Listener Services:

Vermont Farmer's Markets
The best thing about having finished the Vermont City Marathon last month is that my Saturday mornings are now free to wander my local farmer's market. There's something special about buying your food directly from the producer, and the drudgery of grocery shopping suddenly becomes a fun social activity. Find your local farmer's market here.

Green Mountain CarShare
Car-sharing can save money, improve the environment, and increase mobility. Green Mountain CarShare is a local nonprofit that is working hard to launch an affordable and convenient car-sharing service in the Burlington area, with plans to expand elsewhere in Vermont in the future. Learn more about Green Mountain CarShare here.

No Impact Man
Colin Beavan describes himself as a "guilty liberal" who "finally snaps, swears off plastic, goes organic, becomes a bicycle nut, turns off his power, composts his poop and, while living in New York City, generally turns into a tree-hugging lunatic...." Well, you get the idea. It was supposed to be a one-year experiment, but he's kept is up. Visit No Impact Man's website.

Franny Bastian, Producer:

Edible Landscaping
Most of my lawn is crabgrass and dandelions, so it's hardly edible. But I love VPR Commentator Charlie Nardozi's e-newsletter. I find out how to deal with the bugs that are eating my bushes, and practical tips on dealing with the crabgrass without chemicals. And even though I don't grow vegetables, I find out what neat varieties to look for at the Burlington Farmer's Market. Learn more about edible landscaping.

The Inspired Protagonist
Jeffrey Hollender is President of Seventh Generation. He offers a world view on important environmental issues mixed in with his musings on sustainable business practices. Check out The Inspired Protagonist at Seventh Generation.

Brian Jones, Production Associate:

Affordable Composting bins
Chittenden Solid Waste District offers a nice, inexpensive compost bin for $37.45. I bought one and it is a good deal! Start composting!.

Recycling!
The CSWD website also has lots of information on how to recycle all of your stuff, as well as properly dispose of hazardous waste, etc. Learn more here.

Orion Magazine

Cradle to Cradle Chronology (blog)
This is named for William McDonough and Michael Braungart's 2002 book (Cradle to Cradle) which is based on the idea that all things we produce should be made to completely break back down to biodegradable elements. Check out Cradle to Cradle Chronology here.

The Vermont Peak Oil Network

Vermont Localvore
Eating foods that are grown with 100 miles of where you live supports local farmers, cuts our use of fossil fuel, and helps us eat a fresher, more seasonal diet. This site is a helpful resource with localvore recipes and a guide to finding local foods. Visit Vermont Localvore's website here.

"Greenwashing"
"Going green" has become mainstream for businesses large and small - and that's a good thing. But what's not so great is when businesses make environmental marketing claims that can be misleading. This site rates ads based on how their green marketing stands up to reality, holding businesses accountable and helping consumers be more savvy about evaluating these businesses. Learn more about "greenwashing" here.
