Serenade to Music

09/10/12 9:00AM By Walter Parker

Our music today will include Ralph Vaughan Williams' Serenade to Music, a beautiful setting of lines from the final scene of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice.  They begin:

How sweet the moonlight sleeps upon this bank!

Here will we sit, and let the sounds of music

Creep in our ears: soft stillness and the night

Become the touches of sweet harmony.
