Wikipedia was one of a number of websites that went dark to protest PIPA/SOPA.
Senator Patrick Leahy has sponsored a bill in the Senate - the Protect IP Act or PIPA - that proponents hope will prevent piracy of media and the counterfeiting of goods. But opponents believe it promotes censorship and could shut down websites without due process. The House is considering a similar bill, the Stop Online Piracy Act or SOPA.

Wikipedia and a number of websites staged a blackout Wednesday to protest these bills.

Norwich University Assistant Professor Jeremy Hansen and Jacob Edgar, president of the world music label Cumbancha, explain their opinions of the proposed legislation.
