Even before the recession, we were confronted with an increasingly complex financial landscape that requires us to make difficult financial decisions. Yet, most of us have received very little training or education in making those decisions.

Studies show that a majority of Americans are not well-prepared to handle their personal finances and make adequate plans for  retirement.

The newly created Financial Literacy Center hopes to change that.  We talk with Annamaria Lusardi, Dartmouth's Joel E. and Susan Hyatt Professor of Economics who directs the center, about how we can improve our financial literacy. Listen

Also, the second half of our interview with John Irving, author of "The Cider House Rules" and "A Prayer For Owen Meany."  We talked with Irving at his home in East Dorset. Click here to go to Jane's interview with John Irving

And, a behind-the-scenes look at the visit through the eyes of Vermont Edition producer Sarah Ashworth. Listen
