For years we've known that stem cells have the potential to develop into many different cell types, and for researchers that's been a source of hope in treating many diseases.  And, while ethical battles have stymied embryonic stem cell research, scientists at UVM have been working for years with adult and umbilical cord stem cells.  We talk with Jeff Spees, the Director of UVM's Stem Cell Core facility to learn more about UVM's research.  And we also find out how revamped federal guidelines and the recent approval of new stem cell lines are affecting research nationwide. And, this Friday, friends of the late poet Grace Paley will gather to celebrate her life and work on the occasion of what would have been her 87th birthday.  We listen back to an archival recording of Paley reading her Christmas story, "The Loudest Voice."  It's about a Jewish girl who plays an important role in her school's Christmas play.
