Vermont has nearly 300 veterinarians, but fewer than 50 are large animal vets. That means some farmers are having a hard time finding someone to care for their animals.
It's a national problem and concern over it has officials and veterinarians looking for ways to encourage more young people to enter large animal practice, instead of focusing on house pets.
We'll talk with state veterinarian Kristin Haas, Vergennes vet Joe Klopfenstein and recent veterinary school graduate Carie Telgen about the life of a large animal vet and what's being done to interest more people in pursuing it. (Listen)
Also, Charlie Nardozzi of the National Gardening Association gives us pointers on container gardening. (Listen)
