Libraries meet demands of a recession

Vermont has the highest number of libraries per capita in the nation, and they're busier than ever.  We check in with our libraries to see how the bad economy has created more demand for their resources.  And, we look into why higher circulation numbers don't necessarily translate into more funding.  

Our guests include State Librarian Martha Reid, and Jerry Carbone, the Director at Brattleboro's Brooks Memorial Library, and Cindy Karasinski, the Director at Lyndonville's Cobleigh Public Library.

Also, on the program, we hear two different viewpoints regarding the health of the state's pension and benefits fund. The Vermont Business Roundtable says the state is currently at least $2.6 billion behind in funding for pensions and benefits for state workers and teachers. Roundtable President Lisa Ventriss and member David Coates explain that claim. We also hear from State Treasurer Jeb Spaulding, who heads the state Pension Investment Committee, and says the problem may not be as severe as some fear.
