Financial aid and paying for college

03/25/09 12:00PM By Bob Kinzel  Download MP3

The Vermont Student Assistance Corporation is the "go to" place for student loans, grants and advice on covering the costs of college. As high school students look forward to thick envelopes with college acceptance letters and financial offers in the coming weeks, we talk with VSAC President Don Vickers about comparing financial aid packages, and strategies for covering the cost of college. We'll also learn about how VSAC is navigating the credit and bond markets to make sure student loans are available to Vermonters. (Listen)

Also in the program, a history chapter on President Calvin Coolidge. Historian Willard Stearne Randall describes how the Vermonter's presidency was unusual for how Coolidge gained and kept office for a little more than five years. (Listen)

And VPR's Nina Keck reports on a project to support growing food businesses in the Rutland area. A planned commercial kitchen may mean that Vermont companies that make everything from crackers to marmalades have a place to expand and stay local. (Listen)
