Food Stamps Revamped: 3SquaresVT
Wednesday, 02/11/09 Noon on Vermont Edition
The program formerly referred to as Food Stamps has a new name: 3SquaresVT. It also has new, more inclusive eligibility guidelines that could mean more food purchasing power for tens of thousands of Vermonters. The program could funnel millions of federal dollars to Vermont food producers and stores and into the Vermont economy at large. We'll talk about it with Renee Richardson, Director of Food and Nutrition Programs for the Vermont Agency of Human Services, and with Angela Dieng-Smith of the Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger.
Also on the program, falling milk prices have led the UVM Extension to announce a toll-free Help Hotline for Vermont dairy farmers. Glenn Rogers of the St. Albans UVM Extension Office tells us what's behind it and what the service has to offer.
And this coming weekend marks the return of ski jumping to Brattleboro. We look at the history and recent renovation of the Harris Hill Ski Jump, where some of the world's best jumpers will compete this Saturday and Sunday.
