Nurturing an Agricultural Economy in Hardwick

Monday, 01/26/09 Noon on Vermont Edition

J. Lindholm
Imagine turning around a town's economy by supporting local food.  That's just what residents in Hardwick are doing.  The town has gotten a lot of national press in the past year for its efforts to create a sustainable economy based on local food production.  And at the center of that effort is the non-profit Center for an Agricultural Economy.  We talk with its founder, Andrew Meyer.  He's also the co-owner of Vermont Soy and the owner of Vermont Natural Coatings.  We find out how he's helping to bring an agricultural incubator to the area, and how he hopes to spread the model beyond Hardwick's borders.(Listen)

Also, Quechee author Carla Neggers has written more than 50 books, and her newest thriller is set in the cold Vermont winter. Cold Pursuit, is the first in a new series that follows a secret service agent who's returned home to the Green Mountain State. (Listen)
