Robert Frost's Life in New England
Robert Frost wrote many of his poems on rural life, while
living in New Hampshire, and
later at his home in Shaftsbury, Vermont. And this year, readers across the state have
been learning more about Frost's life through the Vermont Reads program. The Vermont Humanities Council chose author
Natalie Bober's young adult biography, A
Restless Spirit: The Story of Robert
Frost as its yearly pick. We talk
with Middlebury professor and Frost biographer, Jay Parini, about Frost's life
and works, and his time in northern New England.
Then, Barre author Jennifer McMahon's latest book, Island of Lost Girls, has been on the New York Times bestseller list all summer. She wrote most of the novel from a booth at the Maple Valley Café in Plainfield. We meet her there, and ask her about her newfound success as a writer.
Also, writer Wallace Stegner is an author often associated with the American West. But he spent more than fifty summers in Greensboro, Vermont. We visit with those who remember his time in the Northeast Kingdom town.
