Hospitals have been dealing with antibiotic-resistant infections for decades, but in recent years the so-called ‘superbugs' have become increasingly common in local communities as well. Health officials say they can be treated, but they can be troublesome and even fatal if they're not handled properly. What precautions should Vermonters take to avoid spreading or contracting these infections? We talk with a former superbug sufferer, and with Dr. Don Swartz, the Medical Director of the Vermont Department of Health, about the treatment and prevention of MRSA and other virulent pathogens. (Listen)
And we continue our Green Series with a stroll around the campus of Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Warren. Bob Ferris, the school's executive director, introduces us to a new, more intentional and sustainable way of thinking about buildings and places and their human inhabitants. (Listen)
And we listen in on a reunion celebration at a hundred-year-old girls' camp in Thetford. (Listen)
