Vermont's Budget
How tight is the money, and what does FY10 look like?
This legislative session's budget was one of the tightest in
history. Governor Jim Douglas said the
state spent every penny in every cookie jar.
We look at just how tight the money was, and how our budget and spending
compares to other New England states. Then we look ahead as economists and lawmakers
are already forecasting the budget for fiscal year 2010. Our guests are Senate Appropriations Chair
Susan Bartlett and Finance Commissioner Jim Reardon.
Also, can we create robots that learn languages or recognize human faces? A conference this weekend at Dartmouth College sets out to examine whether we can discover algorithms to duplicate humanity. We talk with one of the organizers, Dartmouth Professor of Psychology and Brain Science and Computational Science, Richard Granger.
