Vermonters in the New Hampshire Primary
History is being made in New Hampshire, and Vermonters want to be part of it. For months now they've been traveling across the river, one by one and by the busload. They're knocking on doors, manning phone banks and even hading out free Ben and Jerry's ice cream to promote the candidates of their choice. On the even of the primary, we talk about why Vermonters spend so much time campaigning in New Hampshire, and the effect their presence has -- on their Granite State neighbors and on the Vermonters who volunteer. Our guests are former Vermont State Senator Dennis Delaney, who's campaigning for John McCain, and Scott McCarty, a UVM student who's working for Hillary Clinton.
Also on the program, we talk about student engagement with Montpelier State Representative John Anderson, retired teacher Bill Haines and Colin Arisman, a student at Montpelier High. For years the Montpelier students have not only cleaned up trash from the Winooski River. They've also lobbied at the State House for a bill that would curb illegal tire dumping.
Finally, an audio postcard from Rupert, home of the Green Mountain Asthma Cure and known by some as "the town Vermont forgot."
