Heightened border security has led to long waits for travelers crossing fromCanada into Vermont. And the situation is likely to worsen if a federal passport mandate goes into effect next summer. Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy has been leading the charge for a solution that recognizes the cultural and economic importance of U.S.-Canada relations. He joins our conversation, along with Tim Shea of the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Keith Beadle, a former customs inspector and village trustee in Derby Line, Vermont.
Also on the program, the second part of our series, "The China Project." Members of the Vermont Youth Orchestra performed this summer in China, and made audio recordings of their tour. And, another installment in our series of audio postcards from towns across the state. Today: the southern Vermont village of Peru.
