Maple recipes from VPR Listeners
There are as many ways to enjoy maple products as there are sugarhouses this time of year. Recently we asked prEview readers to share their favorite maple recipes with VPR, and they came through with some delicious-sounding results. We try not to play favorites, but the best maple syrup concoction we received may have been the email that said simply "straight up, no ice, no stirring." See if one of these becomes your favorite, and if you have one to add to the collection, please email us.
Grilled Maple-Marinated Salmon
from Diana, Sharon
"I first had this at a friend's house while visiting Colorado and just love how tasty and caramelized the salmon gets on the grill. This same friend was tricked by the exploding maple story April Fool's story on NPR a few years ago (to the delight of everyone in my family here), hence the instructions!"
from Alison, Royalton
"My late father-in-law LOVED the way I cooked ham steak. He talked about this for years!"
from Andy, Guilford
"One of my favorite maple recipes was invented by two great Vermont cooks, Beatrice Vaughan and Janet Greene. It is from their booklet "Real, Old-Time Yankee Maple Cooking," published by The Stephen Greene Press in Brattleboro in 1969. I designed the book working with Robert Dothard, a great book designer in Guilford. The book is long since out of print, but I find that "very used" copies are still available in our local used book stores and on Amazon."
from Carl, North Ferrisburgh
"Simple, but it tastes like the much-more expensive cordial Drambuie. We have about 100 taps for our own family syrup supply."
from Cher, Williamstown
"This was a traditional holiday treat for my family. This recipe is almost a 100 years old. I still have the original recipe card in my grandmother's hand writing! Enjoy!"
Maple Vanilla Waffle Wafer Sundae
from Helena and David, Plainfield
"Here's a quick easy and yummy maple recipe."
from Joanna, Jericho
from Kristen, Bethel
"This is a very quick & simple way to make carrots more interesting. Enjoy any time, but it especially compliments a roast chicken or baked ham dinner."
from Nancy, Chester
"Oh my, these are sooooooooo yummy. When my husband and I are looking for a late night snack, when we're in the mood for "something" - one of us will say "let's make sticky fingers!" Never been disappointed!!"
