The death of an unarmed Thetford man last June has prompted
a state-wide discussion about the use of Tasers in Vermont and a new bill in front of the legislature.
Attorney General Bill Sorrell
will not file criminal charges against a state police officer who fired a stun
gun at an unarmed man last June. The man died from the
electric shock to his chest.
A mental health activist is
calling on officials to release an autopsy report on a man who died after being
shot with a stun gun by state police. State police say the report
is not complete and they are not sure if the report would be considered a
public record.
The longtime companion of a
man who died in June after being shot with a stun gun by state police has sued
the state police and the officer involved. The suit says police should
not have used a Taser stun gun on a person they knew was mentally distressed.
Mental health advocates and civil libertarians are calling for a
moratorium on police use of stun guns in Vermont following the death of
a man last week.
