Vermont Yankee has confirmed that radioactive tritium has reached the Connecticut River from its site in Vernon. The
material was first discovered leaking into groundwater two years ago, and the nuclear power plant says that the levels are well below those set
for drinking water.
Vermont has an agreement to ship its low-level radioactive
waste to a facility in Texas. But other states want to join the agreement. And officials here say they
want to
make sure that any expansion of the facility doesn't affect
Vermont's plans for disposing of its waste.
