Town officials in Morristown have
formally approved an agreement with the state to host some beds from the
state mental hospital. The agreement comes nearly nine months after
Tropical Storm Irene devastated the State Hospital in Waterbury.
Officials in Morristown are
adding up the costs they expect to incur when some beds from the state mental
health facility are moved to their community temporarily.
After
the Vermont State Hospital was closed by flooding from Tropical Storm Irene, Governor Peter Shumlin
proposed decentralizing the facility, and moving some patients to treatment centers like the one in Morristown.
One
of Vermont’s classic Carnegie Libraries is about to get its
first major addition. And the project comes as the Morristown Centennial Library readies for
its next 100 years.
The Morristown select board is looking for candidates to fill the seat held by the chairman who resigned last week after being charged with molesting two children.
