The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources says it intends to deny a Moretown landfill's request to recertify two areas where it disposes of trash.

The operators of the Moretown landfill have responded to a state ultimatum with a plan they say will address odor problems at the facility. The state has put the landfill on notice to resolve the odor issue quickly, or face a shutdown order.

The state has just concluded its first year of an electronics recycling program, and diverted 4.8 million pounds of electronic waste from landfills into a recycling program.
