Vermont Working To Detect The Emerald Ash Borer

Agriculture officials are ramping up efforts to detect the emerald ash borer and, if possible, keep it out of the Green Mountain State. The invasive insect and its larvae have destroyed tens of millions of ash trees in the eastern U.S. and Canada. It hasn’t been reported yet in Vermont, but it’s moving closer.

Vt. pushing search for Asian beetle and ash pest

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is urging people across the Northeast to be on the lookout for the Asian longhorned beetle, a nonnative pest that threatens maple trees and other species of hardwood.

Volunteers on look out for invasive beetles

Two insect pests with a voracious appetite for hardwood trees have been found near Vermont’s borders. The Asian Long Horned Beetle and the Emerald Ash Borer are invasive species. And both bugs have the potential to devastate New England forests.
