Interest in early voting is very high is several parts
of the state. In some communities it's expected that as many as a third of all voters
will cast their ballot before Election Day.
Tuesday is
National Voter Registration Day, and election officials are urging citizens to
fill out their paperwork well before the first Tuesday in November. Vermont
is one of 25 states where voters can not only register, but they can also cast
their ballot in person.
Vermont's early voting system
is designed to boost turnout by making voting more convenient but questions are
being raised about whether it's too easy for third party groups to misuse the
system.
Early voting for Vermont's primary election begins on Monday. It's estimated
that 25 percent of all voters will use this system this year. We talk with
Secretary of State Jim Condos about early voting, and whether states should
require photo IDs for all voters.
Some political analysts think the change in Early Voting - extended from 30 days to 45 days before an election - could be a key factor in the
outcome
of the Democratic gubernatorial primary.
