Vermont law enforcement
officials say hundreds of pounds of prescription drugs have been
collected in an effort to prevent overdoses and stem drug-related crimes.
There’s
confirmation that Vermont remains a pretty safe place, even though there was a
spike last year in burglaries. The
Vermont Criminal Information Center released its annual report on crime trends, which it
prepares for the FBI.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gaye Symington
and Republican governor Jim Douglas strongly disagree over the most effective
way to combat sex crimes in Vermont.
As the 2007 crime
report is being tallied, officials say violence is more prevalent but they
don’t expect the statistics to show a dramatic increase in crime.
Senator
Patrick Leahy and Senator Arlen Specter got an earful today on what rural
communities need to combat increasingly violent drug-related crime.
They
held a Senate Judiciary hearing in Rutland and VPR’s Nina Keck was there.
