For
years Castleton’s town offices were located in a historic building in
the heart of the village. But mold and other safety concerns forced a move into temporary quarters
last year. Local residents remain split over whether to build a new town office
or restore the old one and next Tuesday they’ll vote on the issue.
Castleton’s Planning Commission is
working on changes to ridgeline zoning regulations. The commission says there’s widespread
agreement that commercial development shouldn’t be permitted on at least 20 peaks.
Proponents of a plan for a new Castleton Town Hall say municipal offices, fire and police is desperately needed. But the $2 million price tag is stirring up debate.
School officials
say a $1.2 million addition will hold the college’s new television
studio. The 4,000-square-foot addition to Leavenworth Hall will also hold
