Independent Senator Bernie Sanders says he's going to urge independent voters around the country to support the presidential bid of Democratic Senator Barack Obama.

The only Vermont super delegate supporting Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton says she expects that Clinton will drop out of the race this week - if Senator Barack Obama wins the South Dakota primary on Tuesday. Democratic National Committee woman Billi Gosh says, if that happens, she'll enthusiastically support Obama as the party's nominee. VPR's Bob Kinzel reports

Vermont members of the Democratic National Committee say it's now pretty clear that Illinois Senator Barack Obama is going to be their party's presidential nominee. They hope the campaign between Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton can end on a positive note. They want Democrats to unite for the fall campaign against Republican nominee John McCain.

Will a protracted battle between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination hurt the Party's chances of winning the November election? Senator Patrick Leahy, who supports Obama, says the answer is yes, and he thinks Clinton should drop out of the race. But Clinton's supporters in Vermont have a very different opinion. Congressman Peter Welch says the Democratic Party runs the risk of alienating a lot of voters if the presidential candidate who wins the most elected delegates isn't chosen as the Party's nominee for the fall election. Welch, who's a super delegate supporting Senator Obama, says he'll be very disappointed if the super delegates play the deciding role in the nominating process.

Senator Barrack Obama scored a decisive victory over Hillary Clinton in Vermont's Democratic primary. The Illinois senator was propelled to a double-digit lead over Senator Hillary Clinton by voters who said they were motivated by the war in Iraq and the need for change in the political landscape. A winner of 11 presidential primaries in a row, Senator Barack Obama hopes Vermont will play a role in keeping that winning streak intact in tomorrow's Democratic primary voting.
